Sergio's opened in 1986 doing what the sign says: auto electric. Starters, alternators, batteries, wiring — the work that takes patience and a meter, and that plenty of shops would rather hand off to somebody else. Word got around Barrio Logan, and it never really stopped.
Somewhere along the way customers started asking whether we could do the brakes while the car was already here. Then the engine. Then the AC, because nobody wants to sit on the 5 in August with the windows down. So we do all of it now. Electrical is still the specialty. It's just no longer the only thing.
It's a family shop in the plain sense of the word — the Martinez family runs it, not a group with a logo and a regional manager. When you call, you're talking to someone who'll still be here next year and who has to see you at the store. That tends to keep everybody honest.
-16 years is the part we're proudest of, and it's the one thing a newer shop down the street can't put on its sign. We've worked on second cars, then third cars, then the kid's first car. A lot of the people who come in were sent by somebody who's been coming since the nineties.
